Abstract

This study focuses on the discussion of the cycling motivation of Klaten people from a sociological perspective. The purpose of this study is to find out the dynamics of social change in cycling activities, the motivation for cycling and the obstacles encountered, and the solutions. Data were collected by questionnaire via Google form to 60 informants from individual cyclists and those who are members of the community. The method is supplemented by documentation and face-to-face interviews or by telephone. Data were analyzed with descriptive methods. The results of the study show that cycling activity is part of the dynamics of the society in the presence of intentional/desired social change as a result of the covid 19 pandemic. Cycling is practiced by people of all ages, from 16 years to 58 years, both men and women. Most informants started cycling in 2020 and after. The motivation for cycling both before and after the Covid 19 pandemic was to maintain fitness/exercise. Obstacles in cycling arise from oneself and also from the outside/environment.
