Abstract

This study focuses on the effectiveness of intercultural communication between NTT and Javanese students, especially those studying in Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta is chosen because of its attributes as a student city, the consequence that arises is the need for high intercultural communication. The informants in this study are 100 students from 18 universities. Data collection methods by interview, observation, and documentation. Given that it is still in the pandemic period, the list of questions is distributed using the google form as well as the snowball technique. Data analysis method by descriptive. The results show that intercultural communication between NTT students and Javanese students is effective. This is indicated by 1) Most NTT students state that when they convey a message the meaning they convey is the same as the meaning received/understood by the other person. 2) The minimum of communication misunderstandings that can have an impact on the emergence of conflict. 3). Most NTT students state that they are aware that they are able to communicate culture. This is followed by the answer of 19% of NTT students who state that they are aware that they are not able to communicate between cultures. This awareness will really help students in the process of conveying messages to the other person because they are able to minimize misunderstandings that might occur. The impact that arises is the acquisition of effective communication between NTT students and Javanese students.
