Abstract
This research aims at describing the transmission of tradition carnival ceremony’s Bekakak in Gamping. It is important because the duration of ceremony from beginning until now about 265 years and has been celebrated annually by the society. The old of it same with the standing of Yogyakarta palace, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I is crowned on 1755. It is not easy to handle and continue this tradition. So by this experience, may be the other societies can study from it. There are many items that must be done to fulfill this ceremony; Midodareni Bekakak, Midodareni Selamatan Ageng, Perarakan Pengantin Bekakak, and Penyembelihan Pengantin Bekakak. Before Perarakan Pengantin Bekakak, the officials must conduct many preparations such as offerings (sesaji), making Bekakak from sticky rice, heirloom materials, etc. In Perarakan Pengantin Bekakak, the officials have the responsibilities of their jobs and the carnival’s route from Balai Desa Ambarketawang to Gamping mountain and Pesanggrahan. After the carnival, the slaughtering of Bekakak is held in front of the cave of Gamping and Kliling’s mountain. For the first time that the rule of Bekakak ceremonies is issued by Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, as far as the material of offerings. The exicting of it is the ones that from the first about 265 years ago until now are done as well as the King of Yogyakarta Palace’s ordered. It is a good example for the transmission and sustainable of tradition culture. The other regions in Indonesia can take from this example and apply for theirs. By this way, every region that has a tradition can look for the cultural wealth as the local wisdom in Indonesia.
