Abstract
Reputation management is an effort in managing an organization, especially in building and maintaining the good image of the organization. Based on the approach in reputation management, media relations is one of activities that need to be paid attention to. It is very important to build and maintain reputation because mass media has some superiorities in spreading information, especially in the speed of delivering the message, the width of the scope, and the homogenity of the message. Therefore, organization must build good relation with the mass media through media relations. Reputation management through media relation is conducted by analysing and identifying the problems, constructing strategic planning, conducting and controlling the media, and evaluating. On the other side, the activities of media relations can be in the form of writing/broadcasting, interview, press conference, press gathering, press tour, and building personal relation with the key person of the management board of the media. At last, the success of media relations in building and maintaining the reputation really depends on the policy and view point of the leader of the organization toward mass media.
