Abstract

This study evaluates the often asked question in macroeconomics: is it unemployment that causes the poor or is it the poor that causes unemployment. The model consists of two behavioral equations. The estimation technique was used Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). The sample covers observations for 30 years (1991 - 2020). The data were obtained from Badan Pusat Statistik and various other sources.The Results of this study is that: the poor does not cause unemployment; unemployment does not cause the poor; lagged unemployment does not cause current unemployment; but lagged the poor causes current the poor.
