Abstract
Office is a service center of organization. The main product of office service is information, needed by management in decision making. Quality of information can’t be served unless the office is managed efficiently. Office efficiency depends on implemented systems and methods. The 5 S is a method in organizing office to be more productive and efficient. A 5 S originally is adopted from Japanesse: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu and shitsuke. The advantages of a 5 S for office are reducing set-up times, reducing cycle times, increasing floor space, lowering accident rate, lessening wasted labor, and providing better equipment reliability. A 5 S is a logical-procedural step, after first step (seiri) finished then followed by second step, until last step (shitsuke). Taking a 5 S will make office clean, organized and more productive for office workers. Implementation of a 5 S is started by planning consisting of getting management support. Second, it is continued by coordination meeting to identify inefficiency sources. From this can be formulated the goal and scope of 5 S in office. Third, there is the application of a 5 S from seiri to shitsuke. The last, a 5 S method is evaluated to find the success and failures.
